Panel Suspends 12 EFCC Directors, As Police Reacts to Magu’s Arrest
Information reaching us indicates that about 12 directors and
top staff of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have been
suspended with immediate effect.
The notice of
suspension was communicated to the Acting Chairman of the anti-graft agency,
Mohammed Umar by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation.
According to
sources, the action was in connection with the ongoing investigation of the
suspended Acting Chairman of the agency, Mr. Ibrahim Magu.
What brought anxiety about the situation is that some of those
affected were not directly involved in Magu’s administration.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu,
has said that Magu, is not being detained by the Police.
According to
Adamu, Magu is being detained by the Presidential Panel investigating the
activities of the EFCC.
In a letter written by the Principal Staff
Officer to the IGP, DCP Idowu Owohunwa, dated 14th July, 2020, with number CB:
7000/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.489/171 to an application for bail by Magu’s counsel,
Tosin Ojaomo Esq, Ojaomo & Ojaomo Chambers, Abuja, the IGP advised that the
later be addressed to the Chairman of the Presidential Panel for appropriate
attention.
